Jakotango safaris owes its existence to a conversation Jakob had with an army Major he met at the beginning of his gap year. Like most 18 year olds he was lacking in direction and profession but knew one thing for sure...that his life would be spent in the great outdoors and in the company of horses. He didn’t require much convincing that Tristan Voorspuy’s Offbeat Safaris was the place for him and packed his bags and left for Kenya.
Seven months work experience under the charismatic Tristan brought the realisation that this was the life for him and he has not looked back since. After the gap year he returned to Argentina to finish an agricultural degree, he got his pilot license and rushed back to Kenya where he made a rapid rise in the Offbeat ranks and he was soon guiding riding safaris alone at the tender age of 23.
His passion for his homeland stayed latent so with the knowledge accumulated in Africa he decided to set up his own trips in Argentina. By emphasizing quality of hosting and guiding and marrying comfort with wilderness he has managed to make out of his riding safaris an experience of unique adventure.
Born and raised as a horseman in the argentine Pampas he has been very lucky to seduce the stunning Francesca Cumani who has polished his rustic gaucho customs with a touch of european finesse and some horse training expertise and they are now guiding and hosting together.
Jakotango’s home is Estancia El Golf where a horse paradise has arisen. From when Jakob bought his very first thoroughbred, Tanguito, at the age of 15 he has not stopped adding to his, now 40 strong, herd. With a small but high class broodmare band he is concentrating on the ‘polo argentino’ breed which is very popular in Argentina not just for polo ponies but also for good tempered all round horses.
Two mascots have recently joined the team, Ombú and Timbó, the very friendly Rhodesian Ridgebacks that wi l accompany you on most of the rides.
Between them, Jakob and Francesca speak a total of six languages (Spanish, English, French, German, Italian and Swahili) and being a small family run operation they always manage to make their guests feel at home.
“Jakotango has all the best qualities of a holiday; adventure, cultural
novelty and authenticity, painless exercise, astonishing beauty, delightful
guides and great food. Couldn't recommend more highly.”
Rachel Ward, Australia.
“ Anyone can show you the beautiful vistas of Patagonia, but only Jakob can do it with such grace, charm and fun loving spirit. Having been on nearly 2 dozen horse trips and to several in Argentina, I can say with confidence that jakob is currently running the single best trip in Argentina and probably all of South America as well.”
Jonathan Auerbach, NY, USA.
“ As a guide Jakob is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, safe, caring to all his guests’ needs, a lot of fun to be with and nothing is too much trouble for him. His itinerary is well planned, varied and gives an incredible insight into Argentina, its people and its horses.”
Garth Thompson, Zimbabwe.
